Meeting the OB Obsession

First Colony Aquatic Center's disc golf course is a hard course to play if you're trying not to get an OB stroke to win the $32 gift certificate to Disc Golf Consultants pro-shop. The OB lines on the course are defined by a lake, two roads and a number of meandering walking paths that snake about the course. On almost every hole you have to watch out for an OB line, and the parks numerous trees provide only about ten feet of clearance to throw your disc under. All told, this makes the course a difficult challenge and on Saturday morning, April 3rd, we had twenty-five disc golfers show up to try their hand at no OBs on the twenty basket, par 60 course.

Neal Dambra lead the charge in the three person Open division. Dambra shot an impressive fifteen under par on the course and was the only player to make it through all twenty holes of disc golf without a single OB penalty. He also had the lowest score of the day by eleven strokes! In the Grand Masters division Chuck Conaway showed his fantastic disc control and took first with seven over. He was followed by Rick Hopper with a 70 in second place and Randall Peter with a 72 for third.

The Intermediate division filled up with nine players and went to Ryan Schmidt with a one under par 59. Right behind Ryna was C.J. Hopper with an even par 60 for second, Eric Jubin and Kyle Jenkins tied for third with one over par and finally Scott Patterson in fifth place with a 63. The Recreation division also brought out a good showing of eight players. Ben Madary showed the rec players why he is ready to step up with his four stroke lead over the rest of the division for a two over first place finish. Matt McCabe shot an impressive round to snag second place with six over and third place went to Ronnie Johnston for his nine over round. Fourth place in rec was a three way tie between Garrett Sanborne, Johnb Thomason and Chris MacGregor all going 12 over on their rounds. Garrett took fourth place in a CTP contest after the round with a nice chain brushing shot through the trees.
